Liberal Fascism

I have used the term “liberal fascist” in commentaries on my previous blog “RightOnAmerica” (http://righton.blogharbor.com). The term was coined by Jonah Goldberg, a columnist for the Los Angeles Times. His book, Liberal Fascism (Doubleday, 2007) , traces the history of fascism from Mussolini to current day leftists in America and other parts of the West. The similarities are glaring. This is an edited version of a commentary posted on that site on May 12, 2008 that tries to demonstrate the similarities between current Western liberals and islamofascists. I am using his correlation between German Nazis and the American left as a spring board.

Goldberg notes that German Nazis:

• were socialists (i.e., The National Socialist Party)
• believed in free health care
• believed in guaranteed jobs
• confiscated inherited wealth (think about estate taxes in America)
• spent large amounts of money on public education
• purged the church from public policy
• promoted pagan spirituality (think about radical environmentalism in America)
• used the authority of government to take away personal freedoms
• worked to ban smoking in most places
• supported abortion
• supported euthanasia
• supported gun control
• limited the free market
• maintained a strict racial quota system in higher education
• maintained campus speech codes
• led the world in organic farming
• promoted vegetarianism
• promoted animal rights
• led the world in alternative medicine

Now doesn’t that sound familiar. Ask any liberal whether they support the items on this list. Don’t mention where the list comes from. Most will agree with at least 90% of the list.

Similar correlations can be seen between the Western left, the fascist regime in Italy under Mussolini, and communist regimes in the USSR, China, and several Latin American regimes. All can be described as “progressives”.

So back to the question: Why is it that American leftists ignore atrocities by islamic terrorists and condemn relatively minor infractions by Americans?

The answer now becomes quite clear. The American left shares ideology with islamofascists. BOTH ARE FASCISTS! Both want to take away the personal freedoms of those they pretend to represent. And both will use any subterfuge possible to reach their goal.

Here is one dramatic example of this fact.

U.S. Representative Keith Ellison (D-Minn) is a Muslim. On May 6, 2008, he spoke via video conference with a group of Egyptian journalists and academicians. The goal, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune (5/7/08) was to bridge “gaps in cultural understanding”. He spoke in Arab on occasion during the presentation. The message was that “political life for U.S. Muslims is better than many might suppose in the Arab world”. Questions from the Arab audience centered around whether American society accepts Muslims. Ellison stated: America is getting better, is getting more tolerant and inclusive of all people”.

One letter writer to the Minneapolis Star Tribune (Brad Johnson, 5/10/08) hit the nail on the head. “How crazy that Ellison felt he had to assure these folks that ‘America is getting better’. Our country’s diverse population, its modern track record of inclusiveness and scrupulous protection of individual rights speak for themselves. I wish Ellison could have turned the mike and camera around and asked the…Arab-Muslim Egyptians—whose country has driven out or subjugated every other kind of people—if they even understand what ‘tolerant and inclusive’ means.”

The observation is interesting and spot-on. Of course Ellison won’t ask that question of Muslim-Arabs. No more than he will ask himself why he and his leftist friends want to control the lives of the rest of us…why they want to take away my constitutional rights…why they want to control healthcare, gun ownership, the right to smoke, to eat what we want, to drive the vehicle we want, the right to use the light bulb we want, and the right to control property…why they want to control the right of Christians to exercise their religion…the list is unending.

Keith Ellison and the rest of the far left don’t ask those questions because that would give them away for what they are…Liberal Fascists.

I wrote that commentary in 2008. Little has changed except for the worse.

In my next commentary I will talk further about the ideology of liberal fascists and how that ideology continues to impact our social and political lives.

About Doc

I am a Psychologist and a veteran of the Vietnam War. I work with abused children and with agencies which try to both prevent abuse and to empower those who have been abused. I feel strongly about child abuse and take every action I can to prevent it and to support the children I work with who have experienced it. I also feel strongly about politics and especially the course being taken by our nation. I believe that America is at a critical point in its development. How we answer the challenges from Islamic fascists and from our own internal enemies in the media, government, and academia will determine America’s future and the future of our children. I believe that if we don’t take the correct course now, America will go the way of Europe and that we will not reach the potential set out by our founding fathers. I believe that it is now getting serious. My gravitar is from "Darkman".
