Socialism vs. Liberty

Apparently, Democrats in New Hampshire want a socialist president. Somehow they have missed the fact that socialism has failed across the globe.

Sweden is often held up as the poster child for socialism’s success. As noted by Conservative Review (9/8/15), “The success of Sweden predates the welfare state. In reality, the economy began to fall behind in the 1960s when the state rapidly expanded. Moreover, Sweden enjoyed the highest growth in the industrialized world between 1870 and 1936 – between 1936 and 2008 the rate dropped down to number 13 out of 28 industrialized nations.

“The Swedish-Kurdish scholar Dr. Nima Sanandaji has written all about this in his book Scandinavian Unexceptionalism, published by the Institute of Economic Affairs. Not only did it hurt our economy, the growth of our welfare state has also made our social capital deteriorate.

“A thriving economy, morality and a good business climate is incompatible with socialism. Only two of the 38 most successful privately owned Swedish companies were established after 1970…Someone who makes 2,500 USD a month will still pay 1,000 USD out of that in taxes, and on top of that 25 percent VAT…when people lack ownership over the wealth they create, productive people will either leave or do something else.”

In Sweden, “it is illegal to homeschool your child…You can only buy beer and wine in the state-owned stores. They are closed Saturday 3 pm until Monday 10 am and have a worse selection than your local Kroger. Horse racing (is a) state-controlled monopoly…Even our pharmacies were nationalized in the 1970s. Only North Korea and Cuba share this with Sweden.”

Finally, the government of Sweden pays a good portion of day care expenses, and as a result controls the curriculum. A move toward required day care is in the making.

Sweden, like every other Socialist country, is a failure.  Individuals have been lulled into being “taken care of” at the expense of liberty.

“When I hear Bernie Sanders speaking about socialism, I am reminded of the words of Thomas Jefferson: “The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground”. I advise you to protect your rights and run as far away as possible from candidates who advocate socialism.”

So many of the citizens of New Hampshire, the “Live Free or Die” state, have succumbed to the false promises of utopia made by carpetbagger leftists who only want to erode individual rights in favor of communal government. That is called socialism when citizens are lulled into complacency and choose it. Eventually, government will force it upon us. That is when socialism becomes communism. We are almost there.

About Doc

I am a Psychologist and a veteran of the Vietnam War. I work with abused children and with agencies which try to both prevent abuse and to empower those who have been abused. I feel strongly about child abuse and take every action I can to prevent it and to support the children I work with who have experienced it. I also feel strongly about politics and especially the course being taken by our nation. I believe that America is at a critical point in its development. How we answer the challenges from Islamic fascists and from our own internal enemies in the media, government, and academia will determine America’s future and the future of our children. I believe that if we don’t take the correct course now, America will go the way of Europe and that we will not reach the potential set out by our founding fathers. I believe that it is now getting serious. My gravitar is from "Darkman".
