TPNN recently reminded me of a long forgotten history. After the first issue of Captain America came out on December 20, 1940, several issues showed Captain America beating up on Hitler. While America had not yet entered World War II, national angst was mounting.
As recalled by TPNN, “The angriest reaction to the Captain America storyline came from the German-American Bund, Hitler’s stooges in the U.S. They harassed Jack Kirby and Joe Simon, the creators of Captain America, with hate mail and telephoned death threats. ‘At first we were inclined to laugh off their threats, but then, people in the office reported seeing menacing-looking groups of strange men in front of the building on 42nd Street, and some of the employees were fearful of leaving the office for lunch.’
“Simon called the cops, and as soon as the police showed up, the phone rang. Mayor Fiorello La Guardia wanted to speak to the creators of Captain America. Simon got on the line. ‘You boys over there are doing a good job,’ the voice squeaked. ‘The city of New York will see that no harm will come to you.’”
As TPNN stated, “That is how it’s supposed to work in a democracy.”
Clearly, we live in a different America today with different politicians. Prior to and during World War II, there was a sense of American exceptionalism. Today anti-American, divisive, racist communists are “leading” the nation into equalized mediocrity.
Law enforcement charged with protecting Americans is being condemned and officers are being killed and physically attacked. A tiny, weakling tyrant in North Korea is making Americans think twice before showing a movie. Our President and New York Mayor de Blasio have failed to step up to defend the police and the President has spoken out on the North Korean attempt at bullying only after the movie industry decided to do the right thing.
In addition to intellectually and physically disarming the public, the best way to destroy a nation is to divide in in multiple ways. In this case Obama and his racist, communist allies have established battle lines between blacks and whites, cops and citizens, and rich and poor. Christianity is scoffed at and Muslims are deciding how America should be structured.
If Captain America was beating up on fascist terrorists today, he would not be greeted with the respect he was in 1940. That is a sad commentary on America.
