For generations of American voters, this should be the easiest presidential election decision EVER!
Vote for small government or big government.
Unfortunately, as a friend of mine reminded me yesterday, the decision is complicated by the fact that neither side will just tell the truth. (If that friend wishes to ID himself and comment I would appreciate it.)
Candidate Romney needs to stop pretending he is not rich. He should say, simply, that “I am very rich. I earned that money. I paid taxes on the earnings at the normal rate and the 13% number from the past few years is on investment interest which is lower that initial income tax rates…by decision. That lower rate incents investment which helps America grow. I believe in the exceptionalism of America. I believe that government gets in the way of entrepreneurial success and economic growth. I hope that all Americans will follow my example and gain the same riches I have been able to gain.”
Candidate Obama needs to stop pretending he is not a socialist. He should simply say that “I believe that government is the answer. I believe that without government support no one is capable of success. I see myself as the messiah who can lead government in ‘taking care of’ you. Without the government and me, you will fail. I also believe that because so many of you are so weak, you need the government to redistribute wealth from those who earn it to the rest of you. By doing so, everyone is equal.”
He should go on to say that “I also believe that because so many nations of the world are incapable of fending for themselves, we need to redistribute wealth from America to those nations. In this way we are all equal. America is not special. It is just one nation among many. America should not have all the riches and should not control the rest. It is my goal that all become equal economically and politically through government control. After all, I am a community organizer, NOT a community builder. I know what is right and best for you.”
If Governor Romney and President Obama would both say the truth, Americans would have a clear choice in November. Even if neither candidate will take the high road and say the truth, any thinking person can read between the lines and make a decision based on the evidence.
I, for one, will vote for small government and against a messianic individual, administration, and political party, all of which believe that we are all incapable of fending for ourselves.
